Reading Project (PRP) is five years USAID funded project starting June 2013
with the objective to support the provincial and regional departments of
education (DoE) throughout Pakistan to improve reading skills of at least 1.3
million children in grade one and two. The goal will be supported by three
interrelated components including improved classroom learning environment for
reading, improve policies and systems for reading and community based support
for reading in Pakistan. The anticipated results include 23,800 teachers in
23,800 public schools with improved skills in teaching reading,3,649
scholarships for ADE and B.Ed (Hons) students, mobile bus libraries
reaching out to 300 communities.
Job
Overview/Summary
The
Graphic Designer will: To work closely with the Material Development Team and
Consultants in designing and reviewing the teacher learning material for Urdu
and Sindhi Grade 1 & 2. Book designer must have good command of Sindhi/Urdu
language and books and materials design of educational materials such as
Graphic designing of training manuals, modules, activity books, scripted
lesson plan, decodable readers, leveled readers, flash cards etc Materials
designer must have previous experience for designing teachers and educational
materials (print media). An evidence or proof of previous work with references
is required. Book Designer will develop
templates for all items listed at #1 above and table below and get prior
approvals of each piece of work completed from the PRP. Book Designer will

the PRP. Using innovation and creativity in the graphic designing-
darkening/coloring illustrations, adding charts/graphs, boarders in the
materials Ensure that the graphics used are contextually/culturally relevant
for Pakistan for Sindhi/Urdu/English materials Thinking innovatively to design
attractive and reader friendly graphics for all different types of materials
Meet the strict deadlines for material graphic designing and produce print
ready materials Make corrections in typo
mistakes Sindhi/Urdu/English, redesigns graphics if required and particularly
designs graphics to work in the MS Word to make sure that the
editing/redesigning is easy to handle. Any other task assigned by the
supervisor.

Education:
§
Minimum qualification: Graduation/14 years of education or equivalent
§
Diploma/certification in graphic designing
Knowledge:
Has a deep understanding and knowledge about;
1.
Graphic designing softwares- adobe illustrator/primer, photoshop, Barcode,
Freehand, Coral Draw In-Design etc.
2.
Good typing speed in Sindhi/Urdu/English
3.
Use of computer, internet and MS Office package
4.
Understanding of graphic designing in MS Word- Sindhi/Urdu/English
5.
An evidence or proof of previous work with verifiable references is required.
EXPERIENCE:
·
Have at least 5 year of experience of working on graphic designing with a
renowned organization/ newspaper/magazine/educational materials. Experience
with USAID projects preferred.
SKILLS:
1.
Good command on reading and writing in Sindhi/Urdu/English desirable.
2.
Excellent skills in using graphic designing software
3.
Good aesthetic/artistic taste in designing
4.
Ability to work under extreme pressure and meeting deadlines
